Privacy Policy for Z-Wave Pilot
Last updated: February 18, 2025
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy describes how Z-Wave Pilot (“the App”) handles information when you use the App. The App is a mobile client for controlling Z-Way-based Z-Wave systems. We are committed to transparency about the data the App uses and where it is stored.
2. Data We Collect and Use
2.1 Data Stored Only on Your Device
The following data is stored only on your device (using the operating system’s secure storage) and is not sent to our servers:
- Login credentials (username and password) for your Z-Way controller, so you can stay logged in and use auto-login.
- Connection settings, such as your controller’s local address, remote ID (if you use remote access), and your preferred connection type (Local, Remote, or Auto).
- Dashboard preferences, including which devices are pinned and the order you choose for them.
- Appearance preference (e.g. System, Light, or Dark theme).
- Pro purchase status, so the App knows you have unlocked Pro after a one-time in-app purchase.
We do not have access to this data. It stays on your device and is removed if you uninstall the App or use the “Disconnect” (logout) option in Settings, which clears stored credentials.
2.2 Data We Do Not Collect
The App does not send your personal data, device list, or usage to the App developer. We do not collect:
- Analytics or usage tracking
- Crash reports (unless you use a platform that sends them to the store)
- Contact information, except if you voluntarily contact us (e.g. by email)
3. Where Your Data Goes
3.1 Your Z-Way Controller
When you use the App, it communicates directly with your Z-Way controller:
- Local connection: Traffic goes between your phone and the controller on your local network. We do not see this data.
- Remote connection: If you use “Remote,” the App connects to your controller via find.z-wave.me (operated by Z-Wave.Me). Your login, device data, and commands are sent to your controller through that service. Their terms and privacy practices apply to that part of the flow.
3.2 Apple and Google (In-App Purchase)
If you purchase “Z-Wave Pilot Pro,” the transaction is handled by Apple (App Store) or Google (Play Store). We do not receive your payment details. We only receive confirmation that a purchase was made so the App can unlock Pro. Purchase restoration is done through the store; we do not store your payment or account data.
4. Security
Credentials and sensitive preferences are stored in the device’s secure storage (e.g. Keychain / Keystore), not in plain text.
On web, the App does not persist your password; auto-login and credential storage are disabled there.
5. Data Retention and Your Choices
On your device: Stored data remains until you uninstall the App or tap “Disconnect” in Settings (which clears saved credentials and resets connection-related data).
Our servers: We do not operate servers that store your Z-Way data or login details.
You can stop using the App at any time; uninstalling removes the data stored on the device.
6. Children
The App is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will work to delete it.
7. International Users
The App and any support we provide may be offered from Norway. If you use the App from another country, your data will still be stored only on your device and sent only to your Z-Way controller (and, for remote access, find.z-wave.me) and to Apple or Google for purchases, as described above.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised policy on this page and update the “Last updated” date. If changes are significant, we may notify you in the App or by email if you have provided it. Continued use of the App after changes means you accept the updated policy.
9. Contact
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or the App’s handling of data, you can contact us at:
Summary: Z-Wave Pilot keeps your credentials and preferences on your device and does not send them to the App developer. Data is sent only to your Z-Way controller (and, for remote access, to find.z-wave.me) and to Apple or Google for in-app purchases.
